Writing the Book You Want to Read

Have you ever wanted to read a book that just didn't exist yet?

"If there is a book you really want to read that hasn't been written yet, then you must write it."
-Toni Morrison

I've been toying with this idea for a while now. I have a couple of children's books in my head as well as a devotional for women. Maybe a novel, too? I should probably just pick one to start with. But I love Morrison's directive here. Not just that you might think about writing it, but that you must write it. Like that book needs to exist. Do my ideas need to be books? Will anyone want to read them?

What books do you want to read? Ever think of writing them yourself?

I think about it all the time...the hard part is sitting down and DOING it! I have many beginnings in my head, but somehow the endings always trail off!

I would read your books!

I have a few ideas but they stay ideas. I don't take the time to start it and I also doubt my ability to produce a whole work. But I could at least do a short story.

So true Heather!

One of my friends is in talks with a publisher and when I asked why it seemed like her enthusiasm had faded a little she said this: "The idea of writing a book is so much more fun than than work of actually writing the book."

But just getting started puts you ahead of the millions of people who would like to write a book but never even get started. Go for it Caitlin!

Thanks for all the encouragement. Going from ideas to reality definitely seems like that hardest part!!
