That's Funny, You Don't Look Buddhist

To continue my Sunday feature on spiritual writings and books, today I'm going to share a book about Buddhism.  That's Funny, You Don't Look Buddhist: On Being a Faithful Jew and a Passionate Buddhist, by Sylvia Boorstein.  It's the fascinating record of the faith journey of a Jewish woman who finds meaning and joy with Buddhism.  As she becomes more involved with Buddhism, she continues to practices her Jewish faith as well.  As a Christian who is intrigued by Buddhist practices, Boorstein's journey was an insightful example of how I might navigate my own path.  It is also filled with funny stories and inspirational moments.  Check it out!

Jamie-I'm so glad!! If you like those kind of books you should check out The Faith Club, Pitching My Tent, and Blue Jean Buddha. There is also a book about a young Muslim woman in America that is really good, but I can't remember what it is called. If I find it, I'll let you know. Oh! And have you read Girl Meets God? That's a really interesting read as well. Happy reading!

Thanks for sharing this book. I'll have to check it out. I've been studying Buddhism for a while now. It has helped me find peace.

It really does make me feel peaceful as well. Even just reading about Buddhism is calming! What books have you read about it? Have you read Creating True Peace by Thich Nat Hahn or Happiness by Matthieu Ricard?

I started with a basic book about Buddhism, just to get me started and to get the history. I have also read, or am still reading the following:

The Art of Happiness - Dalai Lama
Daily Wisdom - Dalai Lama
Living Buddha, Living Christ - Thich Nhat Hahn
Peace Is Every Step - Thich Nhat Hahn
Buddha or Bust - Perry Garfinkel
Wherever You Go, There You Are - which is really a book on meditation.

I ordered a copy of "That's Funny..." today. Thanks again for the recommendations.

BTW - Have you read Eat, Pray, Love? It really is a wonderful read. I'm reading again right now for the second time.

I LOVED Eat, Pray, Love!! I really liked Living Buddha, Living Christ and The Art of Happiness. Have you read For Tibet, With Love? LOVED it! I read it twice cover to cover in 72 hours. Buddha or Bust sounds fun. I need to look into that one.
